Forgive me, Father…

In the sixth century, Pope Gregory handed down a list of “seven cardinal vices.” Now the Vatican has issued an additional seven “social sins.”

You offend God not only by stealing, taking the Lord’s name in vain or coveting your neighbor’s wife, but also by wrecking the environment, carrying out morally debatable experiments that manipulate DNA or harm embryos,” said [Bishop Gianfranco] Girotti, who is responsible for the body that oversees confessions.

    The seven social sins are:

  • “Bioethical” violations such as birth control - CHECK
  • “Morally dubious” experiments such as stem cell research - CHECK
  • Drug abuse
  • Polluting the environment - Sadly, CHECK
  • Contributing to widening divide between rich and poor
  • Excessive wealth
  • Creating poverty - I create my own poverty by working at UGA, so CHECK
    The original deadly sins:

  • Pride
  • Envy
  • Gluttony
  • Lust
  • Anger
  • Greed
  • Sloth

Is there a sober doctor in the house?

Random No Comments »
“A doctor friend of mine gets high on his rotations, but I never do, because while I can function for the most part, I tend to forget a lot of things and act like a jackass. I have to take calls from patients at home after work all the time, but that’s not really a problem. The thing about weed is that you can sober up for a few moments at a time. You can focus on one thing for, like, 45 seconds, but then you get distracted by the TV or by how pretty your candles are or something.” Source: timeout.com

I’m a little bit shocked by this article in Time Out New York. It was supposedly written by an internist in a New York hospital who gets high EVERY DAY. What do you think? Click to read the whole article.

Viva Mexico!

Shit, dude, how could I possibly forget THIS! Last week Patrick & I bought tickets to Mexico City!  We’ll be spending the last two weeks of May (our anniversary, aww) traveling around central and southern Mexico.  I’m excited!  I’m also nervous & hoping that our rental car is MUCH sturdier this go round.  Send us “no flat tire” vibes if you’re willing!

So, clearly it has been ages since my last blorg. I could give this reason or that excuse as to why I waited so long, but really, who cares?

We visited Patrick’s sister in Denver, Colorado and saw the following things:

DSC03928
The most beautiful Good Will store ever.
DSC03925
It was very chic.

Apparently taking pictures inside the Good Will store is highly frowned upon. I was asked very quickly to cease and desist. The reason given was that they were afraid their competition would plagiarize the layout and/or design of their boutique like shop. You know those Christian mission stores… They’re all about stealing ideas from other donation centers!

Me, holding the pole. I did let go eventually, and only wiped out twice. :)

We also sang Karaoke (IN PUBLIC) and I ice skated for the very first time. These were, perhaps, the most horrifying events of our Colorado trip. Oh wait, that’s not true! We also did this:

DSC04070
Do you like my puffy jacket? It only kept me slightly warm in this insanely windy weather.

Patrick after his third and final trip down the mountain on his tube.

In case you can’t tell what those pictures are of, because of the HORRIBLE WHITE OUT / AVALANCHE conditions, I will describe them. Patrick and I voluntarily flung ourselves down a huge, steep, icy hill with nothing but a small slice of rubber (complete with a HOLE in the center; some people call this an inner tube) between our soft, fleshy, ever so delicate bodies and the sharp, freezing ground. It was truly a very scary experience.

For more pictures of the fun and adventures in Colorado, check out Patrick’s blorg or our flickr page.

So, as if recovering from tubing weren’t enough to keep me from blogging, in January myself, Patrick and friends took a trip to the North Georgia mountains. We stayed in a beautiful cabin in Helen.

Appalachians
This was our view from the wall of windows lining the living room.
Fire Place
This was the fireplace. We toasted marshmallows. :)

There were also scary things:

Rebel Baby
I found this portrait most disturbing. It’s of an infant holding a bottle of Jack in a basin in front of a rebel flag. Hmmmm….
Light brite!
Seizure inducing “Fairy” CabbagePatch dolls were very scary.
DSC04117
The Schnitzel was amazing!
Chattahoochie River
It snowed. :) Nothing like watching the snow fall while you’re sitting in a 107 degree hot tub :)

That pretty much filled up the middle part of January (yeah, I know what you’re thinking. How sad.) We did, however, eat at The Grit a lot.

Katsup!
mmm cake!
Cake! Ohh, the cake! The Grit makes the best cake. Better than Cecilia’s, even!

We went to a couple Super Bowl parties, played a lot of guitar hero and I taught my dog how to “spin around.” All in all January was nice.

I can think of only a few things worth blorging about from February. 1) Barack Obama won the Georgia primary. About this I found myself very pleased. However, I can’t stop thinking that no matter who wins the democratic nomination, I’m fine with it. I genuinely think both Hillary and Barack are both great people with great ideas that would do wonders for our country. It seems a nice place to be in right now having two nominees of whom I am completely confident in. God forbid I say this, but even John McCain ain’t so bad himself. *gulp!*

So, we also saw Mr. Henry Rollins again in February. He came to the 40 Watt in Athens this time and was, as expected, throughly entertaining, enlightening, enthusiastic, and oh so enticing. Meow, Mr. Henry Rollins…! Here are some snaps. We were really close, but I’m trying to learn how to use a new camera and I’m retarded. So they’re not the best.

Okay, what better note to end on than with pictures of Henry Rollins? How many times can I type his name in this post? One more? Henry Rollins. :)

Happy MARCH!

Music Essentials

Tech No Comments »

Oh, P.S., I got the music essentials kit for my LG Chocolate today.  This includes the USB cord, the syncing software, and an okay pair of headphones with microphone.  I tested out the headphones today by calling my mama at work.  She heard me fine.  I’m glad.  I can’t afford a bluetooth headset right now, so this will have to do me as far as hands free goes.  I haven’t gotten to try out the syncing software yet because the lovely IT gurus here at work won’t grant anyone admin rights and I can’t install without it.  I downloaded one song from Vcast already, though, and I love the sound quality on my phone, so I’m looking forward to using it for more music.  Hopefully tomorrow my MicroSD card will come in :D

anime porno…

Random, boo-hoo No Comments »

Okay, seriously, why can I not visit any site on the internet without running into some scantily clad, big busted, wide eyed, sailor moon chicks?  I mean, I get why people like anime, and I even get why people like naked anime, but why are there so many friggin’ adverts for it on every single site I’m trying to look at while I’m at work? It’s a tincy bit annoying.

That is all.

Old Phone Out DSC00057
New Phone In DSC00055

Yesterday I got my “new every two” phone from Verizon. FedEx shipped it to me over night & I’ve been fiddling with it non-stop since around 11:00 yesterday. I got the “Dark Cherry” VX3550 model, which is the newest chocolate by LG. So far I’m really enjoying it. The call quality is clear and I love the user interface. The screen is large, although not as large as my razr, and very bright. The camera is much better than the razr’s, but doesn’t have a flash so I still can’t take random pictures in the bar or other low light situations. :) I’m especially loving that the Chocolate has a slot for a MicroSD memory card, which I think goes up to 4GB. I won’t have to carry my mp3 player around anymore!

The keys are a little close together, compared to the razr, which was kind of wide, but they’re suitable for texting and dialing.  I love the vibration feedback that the touch keys give you, but I have noticed that I hit them on accident some.  However, the lock feature is great & prevents a lot of mistaken touches.  Overall, I’m really pleased!

I love new gadgets :D

Shred!

Random, boo-hoo, pix No Comments »

It’s like Watergate in my office today. I’ve shredded so many old files (some circa 1960s! Most from 1980s.) that my poor little shredder gave out on me. :(

Have you ever felt like you couldn’t escape someone?  Have you ever felt like you couldn’t escape a Co-Worker? Well, I’m not in that situation, per se, but a vendor keeps calling me.  Literally, I get a call every day, sometimes twice a day!  I got a voice mail about an hour ago and since I hadn’t answered they called me back!  Honestly, there is something to be said about having a good line of communication with your customers, but this is a little much.  I’ve never enjoyed call-ID so much!
