It’s rare lately that I have any sort of inspiration what so ever when it comes to art. That’s why it was so surprising to me today when I suddenly though “I want to paint that!” I haven’t actually painted anything, save the walls in our house, since 2002. I’ve had three blank canvas’s sitting in my office (I think they’re in there somewhere!) for about 4 months. I bought them when I became unemployed and thought I’d start something on them, but ended up doing other things and eventually found a new job. Anyway, I was also surprised today at the subject that made me so excited about starting a new piece. What was it??? Well, it was this:

Dave Freakin’ Grohl’s sexy mouth on a microphone…

I don’t even like the Foo Fighters that much, although they do put on a good show. This particular image really excites me, though. Not in that way, perverts. Okay, maybe a little in that way.

It took me for ever to capture that image, too, by the way. Thanks Windows Media Player!

Fashion Sense

I’m so out of the fashion world that I’m not really sure if J C Penney is considered nice or what, but they had a huge sale today and we went. While Patrick was trying on clothes I waited outside, but eventually got tired of not seeing what was going on, so I just went into the dressing room and sat and waited with him. There was no one else in the room (which was a large room containing other smaller, single dressing rooms) so I didn’t feel uncomfortable or like I was making anyone else uncomfortable. But later, another man came in, and as I was walking out, one of the sales ladies came and said “I’m sorry, I can’t allow you to be in the men’s dressing room. Just like we wouldn’t allow a man in the women’s.” I kind of felt like she didn’t realize that I was leaving and tried to briefly explain that I got up to leave as soon as another man entered, but whatever. She just wanted me outta there.

Before that, we had made plans to see “Skeleton Key” with Lindsey and Todd, but they went out of town and ditched us (j/k, bitches!) so we farted around town instead. We had lunch at Moe’s and it totally felt like an episode of Laguna Beach. Lots of girls in those shorty skirts and big ole’ boots. It was sick. The food was acceptable, though. There seems to be an extra 5,000 or so students here in Athens this Fall. I made this comment earlier at athensworld, but it seems even more true today. Before we ended up at Moe’s, we tried another local eatery and the line was literally out the door. It seems weird, but maybe I’m just being overly observant (or sensitive, maybe).

So anyway, I’m home alone now, poking around on random sites on the internet, and I happened to visit the Counting Crows site, which I rarely do even though they are a favorite of mine. Now, I knew that they were big on supporting certain causes (like domestic violence, HIV/AIDS, and the environment), but on their community outreach page, I noticed that they said they support Nuçi’s Space. How cool is that? Well, at least I think it’s cool.

Blue Orchid

So, I just remembered that I had this in my email.

On Patrick’s birthday, June 11, an Atlanta radio station (99x) sent him an e-card. So, this was four days after the release of Get Behind me Satan, The White Stripes 5th album. Anyway, if you’ve heard the song “Blue Orchid” you’ll probably find the e-card as hilarious as I did. Here’s what was on it.

There is something fundamentally wrong with the fact that the Pussycat Dolls are performing on the Teen Choice Awards… Not to mention the fact that I am watching the Teen Choice Awards. :/ Don’t you wish you were a geek like me?

Begging, or more politely put, panhandling, is now illegal in certain parts of Atlanta. The AJC writes that “The ordinance covers a ‘tourist triangle’ that contains the soon-to-open Georgia Aquarium, Centennial Olympic Park, the AmericasMart and several major hotels.” The ban was voted in 12-3 and I, for one, am not offended in the least. I cannot remember a time that I’ve walked through downtown Atlanta or anywhere near underground and NOT been harassed by a hobo. Seriously, I am a democrat and I am for public assistance, but if you approach me on the street with a crazy look in your eye, I will avoid you at all cost. It’s a violation of personal space and I do not owe you nor will I help you buy a cup of coffee. Most of the time, I can’t afford a cup of coffee for myself, and I work a full freaking time job.

Anita Beaty, a homeless advocate (So is she advocating homelessness or is she a homeless person who’s an advocate.. hmm.) says “Shame on them. Shame on the mayor. Shame on everybody…” No, shame on you, Ms. Beaty, for not realizing that my giving a hobo 50¢ or a $1.00 every time they beg is not helping. In fact, it’s encouraging the act. And I dare anyone to argue that begging is a positivebehaviorr.

The ban won’t just call for the arrest of panhandlers, though. It will direct repeat offenders into the 24/7 Gateway Center, which opened last month in what was once the city jail. The Gateway Center is a shelter that provides toilets, showers, laundry facilities, food, water, telephones, storage for personal belongings, and a place to rest. While I agree with the critics that the center is no solution for homelessness, neither is begging, and at least this is helpful.

Side effect of waiting up…

I feel extra worn out right now. This week seemed extra long and tough to get through and now the weekend is over and we’ve got to start all over. Poor Patrick has to go to work at the hospital in 30 minutes and he’s not even dressed yet. This new schedule will probably kill both of us. Even the cats are acting lethargic lately. Probably because of the heat.

On Sunday last week, after we got home from Waycross, Patrick started his new hospital work schedule. He’s working 7-midnight Friday-Monday. So far, it really sucks a nut. He also started his grad. school orientation on Wednesday this week, so he’s been going to school from 8-5, too. I think he really likes it, though, and that makes me happy. He also found out this week that he passed his longest name ever court interpreting exam, which is good, because next summer when school is out he can do some interpreting for them. We had a lot of fun with Lindsey, Todd, Adina, and DJ on Thursday celebrating said exam at Blind Pig’s Tavern. I had a bit of a hangover, though, Friday morning when I got up to go to work.

I saw something on Tuesday or Wednesday on the way home from work that really made me laugh. I meant to blog it, but didn’t have time. As we drove by the chicken plant (gross) I noticed a man wanting to walk across the street. So I slowed down to let him go in front of me, but a car coming in the opposite direction didn’t. So the guy makes it half way across the street and notices that he’s going to have to go back or be hit by the other car. Instead of turning around, the dude freaking moonwalks back to the curb!! Like, not just scooting backwards, but this was a serious moonwalk. I was super impressed. It also just so happened that he had some cleaning fluid spray bottle in one hand and a white glove on the other! hah! It was awesome, so I gave him a little toot with my horn and a very white girl thumbs up sign.

Anyway, I’m going to try and get back on track now that my yearly vacation is over. Bleh!
