That’s it! I’m vegetarian again. Every morning on the way to work Patrick and I drive by a Perdue chicken plant. Just driving by is stressful enough, as the physical building acts as a reminder of the hundreds of chickens that are bled to death every day (after being shocked and hung, that is), but today. . . today it was worse. Today a chicken fell off the truck on the way into the plant. I’ve been witness to this before, but the chickens are usually dead on the side of the road. (Not to imply that this happens on a frequent basis, but I have seen it at least twice since living at this address in the past year and a half.) Anyway, the poor chicken was alive and wandering about in the middle of a five lane road! Some brave (and stupid) lady stopped her car in the turne lane and tried to catch the chicken. She almost had him in her car as we drove past, but what on earth do you do with a dirty, half dead, wild chicken?? Was she supposed to return it to the plant that so carelessly let the animal fall off the truck in the first place?! Or take it home to raise (or eat) herself. I don’t know. But this really bothered me.
I have a hangnail that needs to be cut, otherwise I’ll end up chewing it until it bleeds, which is never a good thing.
Dead chickens and hangnails aside, there is good news (in MY opinion). Ohio is going to start a vote recount soon, due to all of the blackbox crap and thousands of votes being counted when there aren’t even thousands of registered voters in particular counties. I’m so glad – but isn’t it ironic that if Kerry does end up winning Ohio, he will still have lost the popular vote by 3.5 million votes, but he will win the electorial college. Ironic because of all the Dem.s (including myself) who whined about how the E.C. should be ousted. Ah well, who ever said politics were fair?
