going back home

Well, our flight back to Athens leaves in a few hours. We had a good time. My sister and I annoyed each other a lot, but i suppose that's pretty natural, if not inevitable.

Yesterday we went to the mountains in Winter Park via train and (barely) did some tubing. I only did three runs because the weather up there was pretty harsh. The wind was super fierce, making it VERY cold, and blowing snow around in your face. (And it was snowing anyway.) After my last run, I couldn't see, even though I had my sister's ski googles on. It was fun though. On the ride back, the train "conductor" said that it was the worst weather he'd ever seen there. It's a good thing we took the train, because they ended up having to close the roads down, and we might have gotten stranded in the mountains.

The pictures from yesterday aren't offloaded from the memory stick yet but here are some other ones from our trip:

We really liked this tree.

We really liked this bumper sticker. Also at the Hi-Dive.

Me in front of Sputnik, the sister bar to the Hi-Dive. It's also a restaurant with excellent and cheap food. We ate there before the Extreme Karaoke.

I know it's their "natural habitat", climate wise, but they looked cold!

we're totally on vacation in Denver

So, my sister moved to Denver in July and we are finally visiting her.

The weather is actually cold like it should be in December, and there's snow on the ground, and it's snowing right now. It's wonderful! It's been a LONG time since I've been around weather like this, like about five years. I always preferred the summer. Until I moved to Georgia. Now I miss the snow.

Here are some pictures that Holly took from my sister's second floor deck.

Let's go out to the pub, love

Lindsey took this picture of Holly and me the other day in front of our favorite bar, The Max Canada.

I almost forgot

I mentioned that it's been awhile since I've been to a show. Technically that's not true.

It has been awhile since I've been to a show at a club, but I was at a killer basement show (although it was absurdly late in the night/morning for a Sunday night show) when I saw Old Time Relijun at The Secret Squirrel about a month ago. And what a show it was! I can tell you I've always liked this band a lot. Oddly enough I first encountered them via the internet when they were seeking help putting on a basement show back in Madison. That was in '99 and that was about the last time I saw them. They've changed the lineup and instrumentation a bit and are better than ever... If you like strange but compelling and catchy rock, you really should dig them big time. They are amazing live.

Dinosaur Jr. was pretty decent. I enjoyed the guitar heroics although the vocals could have been A LOT louder in the mix. Dug the new songs. Played plenty old songs- no complaints for me.

Hopefully Pylon will live up to expectations tomorrow night.

Today is the last day of classes and, believe me, it's arrived not a moment too soon.
